Hi Karl,

Aha, that's probably it then. Currently there is a J2SE Development Kit 
5.0 update 8, and a matching public JRE, installed. This is what was 
there before I did anything. I'm sure the offer to upgrade only applied 
to the public JRE.

Is the public JRE different depending on if you install an SDK or not? 
The application is running on the system's default VM which is the one 
that is part of the public JRE.
