Open source WO (was: Apple, Microsoft, Java and the Web?)

As a followup on the topic, I can also recommend to read the following

This is not to bolster my arguments - they offer different arguments -
just about the case  for open sourcing WO one way or the other.

Either Apple does it or the community has to do it one day (because I
don't see major investments from Apple in the future, just my opinion)
- the first option would be less painful for everyone.

PS: Janine: Andrus second post also talks about the brought up issue
of patents, I think the patents involved are in every other major
application server.  To add to this if I recall correctly, ColdFusion
1.0 was out in 1995 already, so some could be prior art (
