WebServicesAssistant update operation fails

I am having a problem with the WebServicesAssistant update operation. I have an OpenBase 
9.1 database with 4 tables. I am trying to update a row in one table using a SOAP message. 
The test function of the operation fails with this response:

Exception:
com.webobjects.foundation.NSForwardException [org.apache.axis.AxisFault] 
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: java.lang.NullPointerException: Exception trying to 
invoke operation: updateTrackerClone

The  problem seems to be with [GID]. When I have the search operation report [GID]  I get:

_EOVectorKeyGlobalID[Tracker (java.lang.Integer)1] ]

I am using OS X 10.4.6, Xcode v2.2, and WebServicesAssistant v 5.2.4

I have tried building a new test database with one table just to test the update operation. I 
get the same exception. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Are there any sample 
apps that use the update operation available?
