ERRest example and Commons Httpclient 4

I working through ERRestRouteExample and am trying to get the example provided in ERXRestClient to work with the recent HttpComponents libraries from the Apache Commons project. (HttpClient was end-of-lifed at 3.1 and rolled into HttpComponents with some significant API changes.) My question is, has someone done this already or is there another example using httpclient 4.x?
