Maybe. I don't know that much about what can be done with .htaccess (I'm 
actually reading up on it now, since you mentioned it.). But would it be 
possible to disable edit only, so the wiki would still be viewable by 
anyone?

All this aside, a solution as much within awki as possible seems to me 
like the easiest, from the awki maintainer's point of view...
