Yes, it's broken again and seems to be an issue with the squid cache.
I just reverted back to the 1.2.x version.

If you choose HttpAuth, phpwiki does not do any auth session handling, 
all this is done within apache, and therefore you have a apache problem.
phpwiki just checks for the typical vars for PHP_AUTH_USER or 
REMOTE_USER (in case of cgi)

I know of this problem and temp. protected uploads-only with http auth, 
the rest with LDAP in my case.

I'm already working on a transparent http auth login page, so that we 
get rid of the client auth dialog and have a beautiful, transparent and 
global HttpAuth solution via httpauth.js
