Hi Max,
The first step when loading directly from index and a blank screen
is usually to disable the logic in index.php:

//if (@is_dir(SCRIPT_FILENAME) or realpath(SCRIPT_FILENAME) == 
realpath(__FILE__))
     include(dirname(__FILE__)."/lib/main.php");
