Thumbnails with transparency and semi-transparent alpha channels (from originals with transparency) allow people to easily change their skin or their background, or enable a dark mode, or place thumbnails in a %frame%, and this will work better than thumbnails with a fixed solid color. Not having to add a background color will also make the ThumbList/Mini code and configuration simpler. WebP files can be opened and saved by PHP since version 5.4.
