Need a hint on using wml

Hello, I am a new user of wml and I found it so useful! I am reading
the documentation I found on the website thewml.org and I have just
registerd to the mailing list (by the way is it still active?). Anyway
I cannot find help on embedding my PHP in a wml source page, should I
evere protect it with the <protect> tag?
