Web Meta Language is not an editor. It's an HTML generation framework. You can 
edit WML markup in any editor you want (vim/gvim, GNU/X Emacs, joe, Notepad, 
Eclipse, KDevelop/Kate/Quanta/KWrite, gedit, pico, etc.)[1], and get a 
resultant HTML or PHP/Perl/etc.-code-embedded-inside the HTML.

Like I said WML has been inactive for a while. Right now, though, there's some 
activity in the subversion repository, that was primarily aimed that it would 
successfully build on cygwin. (A mission that has been achieved). I'm 
planning to release wml-2.0.10 very soon now, and possibly other 2.0.x bug 
fixes releases. See this URL for more information about my (and hopefully

WML got a good reputation for a good reason. It's very powerful. I should note 
that it's:

1. Not WYSIWYG.

2. Does not have a web-interface.

3. Works offline.

4. Requires some time to learn. But not too much if you're smart.

5. The good side is that it is very powerful and gives you full control on the 
resultant HTML. Plus, using its embedded Perl interpreter you can easily 
interact with the rest of the world.

[1] - I wouldn't recommend pico or notepad for anything serious, though. If 
you still like them, you might wish to look at either GNU Nano (an enhanced 
pico clone) or Notepad2 or Notepad++ or whatever. Wikipedia has more
