Ah nice; I hadn't know about that.  Unfortunately, it is based around 
bibtex, which I have some strong opinions about (horrible data model!). 
  I've written to the author to suggest he generalize it more, and 
support xml import/export.

In any case, it'd be great to be able to just click the relevant 
bibliographic entries and have the reading list auto-generated.

I understand your perspective now.  Still, for 99% of course syllabi 
out there, the features I mentioned are essential.

Yes indeed.  On how to handle the "course team",  think of how you'd 
handle a team-taught course with teaching assistants.

Unfortunately, I can't code anything but XSLT.  I have it on my TODO 
list to learn a language like Python, but that's going to take me some 
time, particularly given I have a book to write as well  ;-)

Still, if I find places where I can contribute, I'll let you know...
