Hi, I'm CC'ing CMFSyllabus mailing list as here I've put together some info on
my vision how add-ons for CMFSyllabus should be developed.
CMFSyllabus is an AT-based project thus easily extendible. Some of the
features you describe can go into "core" features, some can go as add-on
product. Probably the best approach would be to generate new product with
classes subclassing CMFSyllabus's classes, something like:
from Products.CMFSyllabus import Course
class Course(Course.Course):
schema=Course.Course.schema + ....
....
which would give you all the functionality of CMFSyllabus plus all the fields
you need for your custom stuff.
One thing I'm worried about is that inter-class dependencies are hardcoded and
I didn't play enough with approach described above. But my educated guess
would be that it should work as long as meta_type for your derived classes is
the same as I use inside CMFSyllabus and as long as you don't install
original CMFSyllabus in the same Plone instance as your modified one
everything should be fine (note that having both products CMFSyllabus and
your modified MySyllabus in Zope Products directory is fine - it's Plone who
might not like having both products installed with the same meta_types).
Hope my rumble was clear enough to understand :)
