I posit that my AddRemoveWidget  
(https://svn.plone.org/svn/archetypes/MoreFieldsAndWidgets/AddRemoveWidget)  
is a better point to start, because it has better usability (according to  
limi), and the ability to optionally add items to the "include" list not  
in the vocabulary. It's also generalised in such a way that you can use  
its template logic outside AT (I use it in a search form, basically). The  
markup still ain't wonderful, but it's possibly a better starting point.

ATReferenceBrowserWidget uses a pop-up window. A kupu drawer would be  
nice... There is a competing reference browser widget, but I haven't used  
it, since ATRBW landed in Plone 2.1.
