I'm not answering your question but asking one of my own ;-)
Do these tools properly support references and UIDs?
In case the answer is "yes", do they store (and restore) the existing 
UID of an object or do they simply store the references and recreate new 
UIDs on import?
What happens with fields stored in alternative storages (specifically 
SQLStorage?)
