zope 3 schema's and the rest of us

Hi all,

A lot of people seem to think that the using-zope-3-schema's story is
not fully developed yet.  Even to an extent that people are concerned
about using them today.  I'm here to say that the existing
how-to-use-zope3-schemas-in-pure-zope-3 story is developed and thus the
plone story is already developed.  Right now we have three things left
to do:
  1. what things can we do with zope 3 schema's inside of a plone
context above and beyond what it does in a pure zope 3 context?
  2. identify rough edges and fix them
  3. build up more full functional zope 3 widgets that are commonly used
in Plone world

Right now #2 is my focus.  But even without #1, #2, or #3 I feel
comfortable in using zope 3 schema's *today* in plone world.  I'm not
talking about full zope 3 content types ... just zope 3 schema's.
plone_schemas shows one usage as does my formlib tutorial.

I believe plone.form is the starter project for straightening out some
of these rough edges.

My push to the rest of you is to try and use these zope 3 schema
techniques in existing projects as much as possible to help us identify
more rough edges.  And for the truly adventurous, even to do some of the
cleanup work of those rough edges yourself.

I personally feel that we are in a state to say that Plone 3.0 will be
the first real version to *support* and actively use Zope 3 schema's.
This of course does mean we need more widgets and rough edges cleaned up
but I believe a lot of that can happen between now and the first RC
release (correct me Alec if I'm mistaken here).

And with regard to #1 in my bullet list, I believe that item will never
be complete.  We will constantly be finding new innovative ways of using
formlib for our applications.
