Balazs, Not sure why my text got stripped - glad you could read it on gmane - I'll try and address what I can below. Thanks in advance for your interest! However I could read the important parts from Martin's replies. On Thu, 17 Aug 2006 17:43:31 -0400, Boos, Paul M. wrote: > Thanks for the links Martin. Is there any documentation for Bling? As a Plone consultant and one of the developers of KSS I certainly cannot offer any working capacity for your suggested project in the next time, but I am rather motivated to understand Laszlo technology better and maybe get new ideas to enhance KSS and our existing Plone frameworks. PAUL>> Balsz, we'll be sure to collaborate with you to inject anything we learn back to you. 1. I've heard about Laszlo half a year ago first, but from the website one gets the impression of a long success story. Is seems OpenLaszlo was originally developed by Laszlo, Inc. and opensourced in 2004. Quote: "OpenLaszlo is an XML-native foundation for building next generation Web applications that increase customer retention, conversion and brand loyalty." I see some big customer names mentioned, but is it possible to actually get a list of existing websites that deploy OpenLaszlo? (Not the commercial version.) PAUL>> There are, but I am not the best expert to know what ones are using which version. I know there are some US Government projects as well as some commercial ones (pandora.com comes to mind). 2. The website says OpenLaszlo is licensed under the Common Public License Version 1.0, which is a license listed as GPL-incompatible by the GNU. Are there plans to ever release the source under a license that is compatible with the GMU GPL? PAUL> Not sure of future plans 3.3.3 is still on CPL. But the code we are proposing would not modify Laszlo, it would essentially be Plone-oriented (and archetypes specifically) code that would allow an integration. So it should remain under a GPL liecense. Hopefully we can make our work as a plug-in or optional add-on. If we fork archetypes, we'll call it something different and point to trying to work with the community to remerge at a later date as the various code products mature. 3. The website says: "OpenLaszlo programs are written in XML and JavaScript and transparently compiled to Flash and soon DHTML." Does this mean the generated websites run in Flash? If they can generate also AJAX (DHTML) applications (so "soon" is already now) is it possible to see any demo? I am asking this because all the demos of the website run in Flash and from this I previously had the (perhaps false) impression that Laszlo generates Flash output - and this was my main reason for not looking at its further details at that time. PAUL>> 3.3.3 offers DHTML (I think since 3.1). The pics demo has a DHTML equivalent. Our focus will be to do DHTML interfaces and then ensure the Flash comes out as a secondary goal. (I wish they did SVG myself.) 4. Is there any example of using OpenLaszlo with a python-based web publishing framework? It seems (again, just based on the website) that the current deployment is rather Java based so I'd be interested in specific experience with python. PAUL>> Not to my knowledge. One beauty of Laszlo though is you never have to touch Java - that is only used to build or extend Laszlo itself. Laszlo apps are built in XML (and you need to know EcmaScript, the ActionScript flavor0). +1. Despite the name Laszlo which is a common Hungarian first name written without accents, I see no connection to Hungary and no explanation on the choice of name. This is just my private curiousity, which is not important to get answered.
