How to apply CSS to a plone product

I am writing a plone product to display classified ads. I want to use a 
CSS to control display of the ads, but I haven't been able to find 
documentation on how to apply a CSS to a Plone product. Can someone 
explain how a CSS is linked to a page template that sets up the view of 
the page? Can you just include the CSS file in the project's skin folder?

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.
