AFAICT, if we remove { position: relative } from #visual-portal-wrapper 
then the problem goes away.

   A) Can anyone confirm? You can test at http://test.zetadev.com:537,
      login w/ test, test (look for me on IRC if this test is borked).

   B) Is this an acceptable solution? I'm guessing that that style is
      there as a general safety-belt against IE weirdness rather than a
      solution to a specific problem. If that is the case then I propose
      removing it since it turns out to be causing a specific problem.
