This is something that is a choice a theme creator makes (or plugin
developer) about what styles should be able to be used by a content editor.

I know it contradicts the styles from theme above, and maybe its just an
edge case. It is however a question I've been asked before from more than
one client.

Consider the case where you want to allow superusers to use embed tabs or
red text, but not users adding ploneboard discussion items.


I'm not saying we have to do this stuff for plone5, but if we're rethinking
how configuration of tinymce happens, and if someone smart can work out how
to make all this work togeather it would be pretty cool.

yeah I;ve considered ways to include genericsetup xml inside a theme zip
and have it installed during theme activation. It's one possibility.

However it might be a little messy to install and then uninstall when
activating different themes.

Thats why I was thinking pulling the styles directly from the currently
activated theme might be cleaner?


I'm always creating Diazo themes in form of Python packages, as I have
more control over everything: CSS/JS resource registrations, theme
registration, etc. So no problem for tinymce.xml or registry.xml
registrations too.

Isn't that an option for you too? Or do you *need* theme ZIP, because
you want clients install their own themes?


Exactly correct.
I even gave a talk this year on why this approach will make Plone more
popular.
