I did a quick test with folderish types and the contents are not affected during versioning operations. ah nice. So no problem there then. So then we just redo how portlets and sharing UI work to let you explicitly pick applying a portlet or local role to either the folder or just content. BTW, I think we can do this without folderish types and it would still be a better UI. ie we'd be removing all the warning messages about being on a default page which aren't that effective anyway. but I'm interested if there is anything else we've forgotten that will change if there are no folders and default pages. Like handling the root of the portal needs to be worked out. but so far I haven't thought of anything more. > > If we can ever get a decent layout editor, with tiles, I think most of the problems go away. No need for folderpagecollection, default pages, etc. I think the collective.tinymcetiles idea is a good stepping stone. Doesn't require a grid system or fundamentally changing how tinymce, templates or how rich content works. Just lets us insert tiles into tinymce fields in pages. I think something like collective.cover is still too early to use. > > > On Fri, Nov 8, 2013 at 7:27 PM, Dylan Jay <djay-n0pU0XVUApFWk0Htik3J/[email protected]> wrote: > Hi, > > During the conference sprint Philip Bauer resurfaced up the idea of making all content types folderish. My purpose to bring this discussion here is to get guidance on just how much work would be involved and what else we need to change we haven't thought of yet. Also to start thinking about the affect on 3rd party plugin content types. > > Based on the usecases identified so far in [3] we'd need > - Changes to to navigation code and editing UI so the title and description could different on navigation such as breadcrumbs, than on the page. > - Changes to CMFEditions to handle folderish types.
