Re: do we need plone.app.customerize? was: [Plone-Users] Insufficient privileges on folder_contents

I found portal_view_customizations and the @@manage-viewlets view have
sometimes wierd side effects that are hard to trace down (David
Sieband has a story to tell about @@manage-viewlets do you care to
chime in?).
e.g. customized viewlets seem to 'forget' about parts of their zcml
configuration, when you customize a viewlet from a
non core product and uninstalll that product it can break your site,
if a viewlets implementation changes it can break your site on upgrade
and so on :-(

They also make it harder to do things in a repeatable manner. I have
not looked at the code, how is the test coverage?
