i agree too. plone's concept of content management is equivalent to the
concept of storing things in a filesystem. that's really easy to
understand.

if you need a media repository, there are some solutions for that as
add-ons: http://plone.org/products/imagerepository and
https://github.com/plone/plone.app.mediarepository
