Haven't had time to do a write-up of work that has already gone into
checking the Barcelonete/Plone5/mockup on accessibility and usability.
But it sure is on the radar. Some anecdotal stuff:

- about 157 differing shades of blue were tested, to make sure we comply
with colorblind- and contrast rules.
- modals (that's fancyspeak for popups) have proper, accessible close
buttons.
- ARIA roles have been added where sensible, not just to the toolbar,
but also to all content areas, portlets etcetera
- we have a bullet-proof way of including vector-based/font-based icons,
that works across devices, screenreaders, etctera.

and the number of a11y tickets has been steadily decreasing, for Plone
but also for mockup.

Significantly, at the Cologne sprint, a11y work/fixes took place in 4
different teams. So I think the concept of a11y is firmly aware in the
minds of quite a few devs working on this, and is in no way an
afterthought anymore. I'm convinced we can make Plone5 really shine in
that field.

The actual shape of the icons can be up for discussion later, but the
infrastructure behind it (alt-tags, Aria roles, Css fallbacks etcetera)
for hooking everything up accessible is in place and in good condition,
which is more important at this stage in the process.
