Sorry I should have given attribution to you and tinymcetiles as it is the
same idea.
The two big changes is now it doesn't assume persistent tiles and the
shortcode syntax. The intention was to use image placeholders originally
but we needed a way to identify and preview the contents of a tile so I
came up with this idea instead.
You are exactly right that it has the downside that a single char missing
can disable the tile. I considered that a lot. On balance I think short
codes are better because they allow power users to cut and paste and make
quick changes by hand. I've used mikkos plonetemplates product in
production and that did result in users breaking the code. However since
this should result in shorter codes I'm hoping its less likely be
accidentally broken in practice.
I did ask some WordPress developers how many times they get complaints of
people messing up functionality when shortcodes are used. We need to ask
more.
Also we need to user test this.

We created branches of tinymcetiles, contentlistingtile and
p.a.contenttypes.

Listing tile i changed a lot to create a new shorter way to serialize the
query string args.
Tinymce tiles still has some work to go. You can't yet reedit a tile or
have two tiles on the same page. But what you see in the video does have
tests.
