+1 on a per-site setting, since it is opt-in and it appears the
default behavior is the status quo.

Ignore my last message, it was too forward-looking and not specific to
your pull request.  OTOH, Plone 5 ought to have some way to do
something similar for plone.app.widgets that would be a single
consistent setting used by both rich text editing in tinymce4 and
related items widget.

More random tangents: It also may be nice at some future point to have
some button for navigating to the navigation root ("home" metaphor)
and the site root ("top" metaphor) [1] with distinct buttons; but
doing this breaks the breadcrumbs idiom (you cannot have two roots in
breadcrumbs).  Maybe a fix might just be some exclusive toggle button
for what the breadcrumbs are relative too.
