first, a disclaimer: I'm neither a designer, nor a UI/UX expert; all my 
experience in this field is empirical and comes from 3 or 4 books, 
dozens of articles and over 20 years using the web.

so, I'm not basing my opinions on one document; I see my opinions 
confirmed on that document.

trying to discredit a big effort like Idealware's guide just by saying 
that you "suspect" something or that you think that a comment is not 
accurate, is not constructive and that's part of the problem: we better 
not ignore other people opinions, but try to understand them.

do you have other studies or guides saying something different? just 
share them so we can make a review.

it's not a secret that I dislike a lot the vertical toolbar; but, of 
course, this is only my opinion... some other people share it, but I 
just make the point clearer.

I don't know why we ended with a vertical toolbar on the first place and 
I don't understand why we think we must put content edition over mobile 
devices as a priority when obviously tablets and smartphones are most 
likely to be used by content consumers and not by content creators.

we rock in many ways and suck in many others. we must try better on what 
we suck. we suck at documentation, not at content editing. yes, we can 
enhance content editing in many ways but, IMO, we are taking unnecessary 
risks on this. the toolbar should be made available for production on 
Plone 4.x before releasing Plone 5 so it can be tested in the real world 
and fixed, if needed.

I would like to spend more time discussing with you using more arguments 
and less opinions; unfortunately, I haven't the time for this right now 
as I'm in the middle of a big project.

maybe soon in person and with a couple of Belgian beers in front.
