BTW this is my summary version of "what happened to deco": - there was a prototype that worked ok, at least for a single page - the idea came along of a toolbar and separating the js/css from the theme via an iframe (CMSUI) - this required a new way to write JS since onload handlers don't work in ajax... or something like that - this turned into mockup and completely reworking JS in Plone. The idea was to return to deco after all this was done Aside from all of that I think there is a lot of uncertainty and division about the ideas in deco making it hard for some to regain motivation. For example: compulsory grids, removing default pages and Folder content types, removing portlets, etc. IMO the biggest problem is that such a large change is hard for anyone to imagine so no one can give the answer: yes this is 100% the best way forward. That has only left us with building it to see if it works in practice... which seems kind of expensive... and we kind of ran out of steam. The way Plone is built is iterative.
