Yes, that should be possible!

Actually, it's only removed. From my point of view, if someone wants to
use plone.app.event with Archetypes support, he/she should use the
plone.app.event 1.x series. Or create that seperate package and backport
the changes from plone.app.event to there (mainly the timezone related
changes).

Exactly. portlets are the main issue. Maybe you can just use
plone.app.portlets 3.0 for Plone 4.3? Or as you said, make 2.5.x
optionally compatible with z3cform.
There is already some z3c form support in 2.5.x
(plone.app.portlets.browser.z3cformhelper), but I don't know how much
that helper helps.

If you can help here, that would be awesome!

Maybe the need to revert my upgrade related changes in the
plone.app.contenttypes 1.2.x branch are then not necessary either.
Currently plone.app.contenttypes depends on plone.app.event 2.x because
of the upgrade changes I made... which doesn't make me very happy.
Working on that is still on my backlog...

Also, the plone.app.event's event subscriber and data mangling issue,
you pointed me in a discussion in IRC some time ago is still open. That
could be solved by extending plone.app.widgets for proper timezone
support. But that's maybe going out of scope for now...

Cheers, Johannes
