You are missing something here. ;)

There's already a style for this, it's called the <code> tag — it's just  
not available as a character style in Kupu right now.

I tried adding:

   Code tag|code

…to the Kupu control panel, but it didn't work (the entry shows up, but it  
doesn't insert the code tag).
