My name is Patrick Gelin (mailto:[email protected]) and I'm the project leader for an educational WEB portal prototype using Plone technologie. The goal of our project is to build something like a C3MS (Community, Content and Collaboration Management Systems) for about 25000 students and 3000 teachers. Smallest students are about 6 years old and Highest are 18 years old. All actors are moving a lot (working both at school and at home). Computers installed in classrooms are not Personal Computer but WorkStation shared between students. At this time we are at preliminary studies stage, we are writing a document to express our needs (top-down methodology) and we are going to build a prototype (bottom-up methodology). The goal of this prototype is to test open source technologies. We are very interested in open source technologies because we want to be free and to secure a lot of data for a long time. After some discussions we made the choice of Zope / CMF / Plone technologies for the prototype. We want to make rapid application development (Cf. Calendar). The needs of the prototype are: 1.LDAP authentication and single sign-on 2.Only two profiles (Student, Teacher) 3.1500 simultaneous connexions 4.Open source technologies 5.Groupware (with the ability to create many privates user’s groups) 6.Optional: CMS functions for e-learning (The Zope server is going to be Linux RedHat 9.0, and the LDAP server OpenLdap) Calendar: October 2003: Prototype will be operational December 2003: Conclusion ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf
