plog2013 installer report

Hey there,

Here is the write down of the installer group from plog2013, if i forgot
something please add.

*Dependencies*:

We  started to work on a script to solve dependencies problems during
the installation process, the goal is to make this script as user
friendly as possible.

- tries to detect your OS
- will install missing dependencies for you

So far we have a working proof of concept for ubuntu and for debian, it
is almost done for centOS, the only thing missing here, is a nice way to
solve the libxml thing.  
The script is nothing doing on its own, it is always asking for
permissions and if you deny it will stop/do nothing.
I also have now a proof of concept where I integrated the script into
the UI-installer, so far only as an option like:

./install.sh --slove-dependencies

My idea is to make this the default option when you run the installer
without any arguments.

After not looking at the code for three days, I thing I will change it a
bit:
- use only sudo or root where it is really needed [atm you have to run
the whole script with sudo/root]
- split the script in OS specific ones and place them into
helper_scripts [easier to read and maintain] and source them.

*OSX Installer:*
There are some little issues, like the progress bar with the wrong time
message [it is always one minute], and the location of the error log
which we would like to fix.
We asked Wyn of the possibility to have a VM with OSX somewhere
Further was there a discussion about splitting the OSX installer from
the UI-installer, more about that in a few moments.

*UI Installer: *
One topic during all the discussions was the possibility about splitting
the installer, so that the OSX installer is not based on the
UI-installer, the idea was more like move towards an UI-buildout.
Reason:
The last couple of years there were lots of changes in OSX and also in
Linux, with the result that we [Steve] had to tweak the UI-installer
script more and more to make it work on all different Linux, BSD and OSX
versions.
If we split the installer into Linux/BSD and OSX it would me easier to
maintain and focus more on OS specific issues.
One idea was to move more into the direction of an UI-buildout.

*WIndows Installer:*
Giacomo started to work on a new installer for windows, see his mail to
this list :)

*I started to work on a little testing application which is based on
openvz to do auto/robot testing of the installer for debian, ubuntu and
centos so far, it would be nice to have something like that integrated
in jenkins
