connection was refused when attempting to connect to localhost

Hello all,

I just set up Plone 2.1.2 on a Suse Linux server and everything went
fine except that I cannot access the Plone page by typing in
http://localhost <http://localhost/> (or the IP of the server, or
http://localhost:8080 <http://localhost:8080/> , or http://127.0.0.1
etc), as I used to do when running Plone off Windows. I get "Connection
was refused when attempting to connect to localhost". I can access the
Plone site just fine through the ZMI--the site is up and running. If I
try to access the site from another computer via the server IP I get a
page cannot be displayed error.

I can ping the Plone server IP and the firewall is disabled. I even
hosed off the first installation, reinstalled fresh, but still have the
same issue.

The difference I'm seeing is that when I try to directly access the
Plone site with a URL it goes to http://localhost/ <http://localhost/>
and when I go through the ZMI it goes to http://localhost
<http://localhost/> (without the ending forward slash), so I'm
wondering if the connection is being denied because the browser is
trying to access the file system directly (?)But I'm pretty new to Plone
and have no idea how to resolve this. If this is a permission problem,
how do I address this?

Or maybe there is a different default port I'm not aware of. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. I am that close to having this working
but am hung up on this one thing. I should just be able to type in
http://locahost and it should take me to the Plone page, right?

Below are the specs:

Plone 2.1.2
Zope 2.8.5
Python 2.3.5
Suse Linux 10.0

Thanks to all,

Chris
