Thanks everyone that sent replies to the original post. Your feedback
was amazing. I will try to summarize everyone's opinions and a
solution for them.

The current dist_plone scripts is getting old. It is what gets run to
generate the official tarball.

People feel that the installers should be based on the tarball, but if
dist_plone is what creates the tarball, then it should be equivalent.

So:

- Building the installers based on dist_plone or buildout does not
require a tarball to be ready and uploaded, but the end result is the
same as long as they both run from a tagged revision of the buildout
script.
- Replacing dist_plone by a buildout is the way to go in the future.
- Using a dist_plone/buildout allows for nightly builds, thus
continuous testing of the tarball-generating procedure and the
installers building procedure.

Does everyone agree on the above?
