Thanks Armin. I did do the upgrade profile in portal_setup back when I changed the Products.TinyMCE to the 1.3.x branch instead of the 1.2.x branch that is the default with Plone 4.2.x. At that time it did fix the problem of IE incompatibility but that was in the IE 9 or IE 10 era.

This problem seems to be a bit different in that I can edit text and save it, but just cannot add links using the WSYWIG editor (adding a link via HTML source view works).

Another thing to note is that if you put IE 11 into "IE 10" mode via the F12 tools, adding links works, which in my mind reinforces the idea that there is an issue between TinyMCE and IE 11, rather than a problem with my instance.

I'm not sure though so I would love to hear from anyone else if they can add links with TinyMCE and IE 11.

Hi Rick
I had issues with TinyMCE's Javascript and Plone 4.2.x preventing saving the body text with custom Archetypes in Chrome.
I pinned Products.TinyMCE to the latest version of that time Products.TinyMCE = 1.3.3
One important step was to run the Generic Setup update profile steps for the new Products.TinyMCE version manually due to there is no option for this in Plone anymore, because TinyMCE is the default editor.

Maybe you missed this and this can help with your 1.3.4 setup as well.
You need to do this in ZMI portal.setup.

Armin
