I am not quite understanding you here, but since noone else has answered…..

Is the problem that you can not use the UI to make the diazo rule?

In such a case: 
add a <div id=«something" (or something else)  in your theme html file where you want something from your content type to appear
look at your other rules, and copy for example
<replace css:content-children="#content" css:theme-children="#content" />
and change #content with the new «#something», then use Firebug add on for Firefox to find out what the div containing your content is (or you can look at the source html code)
You might consider adding a new rule and home-template.html for the front page
