Hello, My practice for images that I want to use site wide, corporate logos, diagrams and that sort, that fall outside of the "managed content" of the plone, I add to the "portal_skins/custom" folder in the zmi and call them with html <img src="htttp://myplone.com/portal_skins/custom/image/png" /> in the appropriate context. If I eventually need to use them TTW in the plone, then I add a duplicate in the plone and adjust sharing accordingly. I have no idea if this is the best practice or not, it's just how I handle it.
