Are you just using jquery to do tweaks to the form after it's loaded? I
can't think of anything special to recommend. I'm not sure how to predict
any update changes for you either.

You could just override the @@personal-preferences view completely and then
you would know you control it through upgrades.

That's all I can offer without any more detail about your use case.
