I'll post a couple answers for you. Eric, who built the Silva xml
import/export, is 'missing in action' right now but should be in next
week.

Nested tables are not supported in Kupu, so don't worry about it. In
fact, if you paste a nested table Kupu will move it to the top level.

There are two css classes which do that, 'float-left' and
'float-right', with corresponding alignment options in Kupu's image
toolbox.

Sounds problematic. Creating a style on the fly defeats the purpose,
yes. If it's a limitation of oowriter, I guess we'll have to document
it.
