I hadn't thought about that...this functionality will need to be extensible to 
other meta types / interfaces as well...

I don't quite know what that would look...whether there would be a 
SilvaNewsItem document layout, which provides the news publication 
information in a separate css'd column, in addition to the standard the ones 
that SilvaDocument provides.  The ZMI-based document layout service would 
need to be able to register document layouts for each meta_type / interface.

And, I wonder if this system should be based on meta_types, or the more Zope 3 
portable interfaces...
