dear developers we have a site here where i have to scroll over 20 pages (on a 20" monitor) to get from the top of the smi to the bottom. this renders the sidebar completely useles. because its faster to just navigate to the desired location then searching for the folder in the side bar. a few thoughts: would it be possible to implement these elipse kind of abbreviation you are using elsewhere in the smi also in the sidebar? the problem is that not all authors use the short title feature. therefore, some of the folders take up to 6 lines in the sidebar. would it be possible to make it user configurable to turn the sidebar off? if the sidebar would be just a nested list you could control its appearance with some fancy css (DOM?) and the user could click on some links to change it (and store it in a cookie). e.g. show/hide sidebar, show/hide icons, show only publications, show only the top 3 levels, ... my knowledge about css is very limited so the above might not be doable at all. regards, marc
