MM2.1 already has a framework for MTA-specific plugins.  Exim can be
configured to automatically delivery to mailing lists, and with
Postfix it is pretty easy to tell it to consult an aliases.db file
that Mailman can control.  There are recipes for Sendmail too,
although I haven't personally tried them.
