As far as I can determine, my copy is identical to (the portion of) yours, including '-isysroot'. Which is not surprising because that file is created at build time and distributed as part of the installer: $ ls -lh /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/_sysconfigdata.py -rw-rw-r-- 1 root admin 21K Dec 5 23:15 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/_sysconfigdata.py $ md5sum /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/_sysconfigdata.py 4fb4e06e0f0489535405cafac9b8af74 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/_sysconfigdata.py # where was it downloaded from $ xattr -l -p com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms python-3.5.1-macosx10.6.pkg | colrm 60 | tail -n +2 | xxd -r | plutil -convert xml1 -r -o - - | grep pkg | colrm 84 | colrm 1 16 https://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.5.1/python-3.5.1-macosx10.6.pkg # what does it contain $ pkgutil --payload-files python-3.5.1-macosx10.6.pkg | grep _sysconfigdata ./Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/_sysconfigdata.py The references to the 10.6 SDK are likely because the version distributed by python.org is built against the 10.6 SDK for maximum compatibility (hence the 'macosx10.6' in the filename.) > On May 5, 2016, at 21:23, Joseph Lee Nunn III <[email protected]> wrote: > > Sorry for the delay in responding, I had to go to class and then run errands. > > After greping around for that -isysconfig flag, I found the following file > > /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/_sysconfigdata.py > > # system configuration generated and used by the sysconfig module > build_time_vars = {'ABIFLAGS': 'm', > 'AC_APPLE_UNIVERSAL_BUILD': 1, > 'AIX_GENUINE_CPLUSPLUS': 0, > 'AR': 'ar', > 'ARFLAGS': 'rc', > 'ASDLGEN': 'python /Users/sysadmin/build/v3.5.1/Parser/asdl_c.py', > 'ASDLGEN_FILES': '/Users/sysadmin/build/v3.5.1/Parser/asdl.py /Users/sysadmin/build/v3.5.1/Parser/asdl_c.py', > 'AST_ASDL': '/Users/sysadmin/build/v3.5.1/Parser/Python.asdl', > 'AST_C': 'Python/Python-ast.c', > 'AST_C_DIR': 'Python', > 'AST_H': 'Include/Python-ast.h', > 'AST_H_DIR': 'Include', > 'BASECFLAGS': '-fno-strict-aliasing -Wsign-compare -Wunreachable-code -fno-common -dynamic', > 'BASECPPFLAGS': '', > 'BASEMODLIBS': '', > 'BINDIR': '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/bin', > 'BINLIBDEST': '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5', > 'BLDLIBRARY': '', > 'BLDSHARED': 'gcc-4.2 -bundle -undefined dynamic_lookup -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -g', > 'BUILDEXE': '.exe', > 'BUILDPYTHON': 'python.exe', > 'BUILD_GNU_TYPE': 'x86_64-apple-darwin10.8.0', > 'BYTESTR_DEPS': '\\', > 'CC': 'gcc-4.2', > 'CCSHARED': '', > 'CFLAGS': '-fno-strict-aliasing -Wsign-compare -Wunreachable-code -fno-common -dynamic -DNDEBUG -g -fwrapv -O3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -g', > 'CFLAGSFORSHARED': '', > 'CFLAGS_NODIST': '', > 'CONFIGFILES': 'configure configure.ac acconfig.h pyconfig.h.in Makefile.pre.in', > 'CONFIGURE_CFLAGS': '-arch i386 -arch x86_64 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -g', > 'CONFIGURE_CFLAGS_NODIST': '-Werror=declaration-after-statement', > 'CONFIGURE_CPPFLAGS': '-isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk', > 'CONFIGURE_LDFLAGS': '-arch i386 -arch x86_64 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -g', > 'CONFIG_ARGS': "'-C' '--enable-framework' '--enable-universalsdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk' '--with-universal-archs=intel' '--with-computed-gotos' '--without-ensurepip' 'LDFLAGS=-g' 'CFLAGS=-g' 'CC=gcc-4.2'", > 'CONFINCLUDEDIR': '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/include', > 'CONFINCLUDEPY': '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/include/python3.5m', > 'COREPYTHONPATH': ':plat-darwin', > 'COVERAGE_INFO': '/private/tmp/_py/_bld/python/coverage.info', > 'COVERAGE_REPORT': '/private/tmp/_py/_bld/python/lcov-report', > 'COVERAGE_REPORT_OPTIONS': '--no-branch-coverage --title "CPython lcov report"', > 'CPPFLAGS': '-I. -IInclude -I/Users/sysadmin/build/v3.5.1/Include -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk', > 'CXX': 'g++-4.2', > 'DESTDIRS': '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5 /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/lib-dynload', > 'DESTLIB': '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5', > 'DESTPATH': '', > 'DESTSHARED': '/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/lib-dynload', > 'DIRMODE': 755, > 'DIST': 'README ChangeLog configure configure.ac acconfig.h pyconfig.h.in Makefile.pre.in Include Lib Misc Ext-dummy', > 'DISTDIRS': 'Include Lib Misc Ext-dummy', > 'DISTFILES': 'README ChangeLog configure configure.ac acconfig.h pyconfig.h.in Makefile.pre.in', > 'DLINCLDIR': '.', > 'DLLLIBRARY': '', > > Which seems to mention the 10.6 sdk quite a bit. It also mentions this file was generated by the sysconfig.py module when installing. Seems the problem is within the Python 3.5 installer, but I don’t know yet if this is its intended behavior or unintended consequences. > > Before I go hacking this file up, I would be grateful if you would send me your own /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.5/lib/python3.5/_sysconfigdata.py, that I might compare mine to it. > > Thanks! > > Joseph Nunn > [email protected] > [email protected] > > >> On May 05 , 2016, at 3:19 PM, Jason Madden <[email protected]> wrote: >> >> >>> On May 5, 2016, at 17:00, Joseph Lee Nunn III <[email protected]> wrote: >>> >>> Is there a system wide setting I may have botched somewhere in the past to always include this? >> >> Other than the aforementioned environment variables, not to my knowledge. But distutils and sysconfig include lots of OS X-specific code (look for 'darwin' in those modules, and at _osx_support.py) that I haven't really read. Though, a quick skim does suggest that explicitly setting the correct '-isysroot /path/to/xcode/sdk/' in CFLAGS might bypass the problem. >> >> As 'persistent' doesn't seem to do anything special in its setup.py, this is probably not anything ZODB related but a general problem with the build environment. numpy and scipy both distribute binary wheels for OS X, so you wouldn't have had to compile anything to install them, explaining why they didn't present problems.
