In theory an adventurous Plone 4.3 or 5.0 user could upgrade to ZODB 5 now by overriding the version pins in their buildout for ZODB, ZODB3, persistent, BTrees, and ZEO. I haven't had a chance to try this on a real project yet. I'm not sure about Newt. Is it possible to use Newt to store instances of persistent.Persistent rather than Newt's base classes?
