I don't think reporting it as a Python problem will get you anywhere.

This is an issue that I've ignored for too long. Apologies.  Every time it
came up, I was too busy to pay attention and this is a complex problem that
resists easy solutions.

I plan to study up on this this weekend. Hopefully, I'll have some
recommendations before too long.
