UseThreeDMenus text alignment

When UseThreeDMenus is defined in .ctwmrc it appears that the text of
menu is shifted down by some number of pixels causing the menu text
not to line with the menu selection and is aesthetically unpleasing.

If I remove the UseThreeDMenus option 2D menus look fine. Any
suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Some other information that might help is that this does NOT occur if I
run ctwm in Xephyr, which baffles me. It DOES happen when running on
Xorg and when running in Xvfb viewed via x11vnc.

I've attached images of both the 2D and 3D menu as they are rendered
on my X server.
