Hi Raster. Thanks for the response.

Yes I know about E's integrated support for connman. I've tried to use it
at various points, but not had a lot of success. Commercial VPN software
expects NetworkManager, meaning I can't use connman when working ( and
being on-call effectively 24/7, that's a deal-breaker ). I've also had
issues with kvm and connman, though I haven't tried this combo recently.

Even beyond these issues, connman has been removed from Fedora for a couple
of releases. I had a 15-minute attempt at building connman recently, but it
complains about missing Xtables, and since I have the above issues even if
I *do* get connman building, it seems like a pointless effort.

Anyway, the question wasn't really around E's integrated networking support
- it was about what in particular was wrong with the gnome services that
would usually have popped up the auth dialog - which has been answered in
another post ( which I'll also repsond to ).
