Or does my original assessment have some flaw? > Hi Peter, There are a number of (similar but different) line editing libraries out there: editline: https://troglobit.com/projects/editline/ libedit: https://www.thrysoee.dk/editline/ readline: https://tiswww.case.edu/php/chet/readline/rltop.html and probably others. The one selected by default by --with-lineedit is editline. On my setup this works fine (using editline 1.17.1).
