Its one of the major disadvantiges of using this way to start apps.
You could write a script that would check if something is running and if 
not - start it, or kill it and start it afterwards.
Changing xdm/kdm/gdm 's configuration to use startfluxbox instead of 
fluxbox is fairly easy - and shouldnt cause anyone too much trouble :)
