Hi,

0.9.12 (and almost all earlier 0.9.x versions) had some fairly hefty
memory and CPU wastage. This was largely fixed in 0.9.13.

However, if people experience delays with fluxbox _on startup_, then it is
very likely fonts-related. This is because fluxbox used font-selections
that were too broad. This problem should be fixed in current SVN
(revision 4060 and above).

Current subversion also has some further memory+CPU improvements on top of
0.9.13.

So:
  - Yes, fluxbox starts slow in some locales for 0.9.13 and earlier. This
is because of fonts and has been fixed in current svn, please try it -
we'd be interested to confirm that it is fixed.
  - Yes, fluxbox was slower to startup, restart, reload large menus for
0.9.12 and earlier. This is fixed in 0.9.13.

So, with current subversion, on a modern machine, fluxbox itself should
start up in under a second. If anything appears to take longer, check that
your startup scripts aren't launching something slow (like firefox) before
launching fluxbox.

If you're using CVS from sourceforge, you need to update - we've moved
away from that: http://www.fluxbox.org/download.php#svn

Cheers,

  - Simon
