just wanted to let you know it was indeed related to the RAM, I had to
use unlimit under tcsh to be allowed to use enough memory.


But I had other problems afterwards, because the configure script ran
well even though some libraries where unfound, and I had to set the
CFLAGS / LDFLAGS environment variables by myself to make it compile
properly. The strange thing was that the "missing" librarires where in
fact in quite usual locations.
